How do I fix a negative balance on my SEPTA Key Card?

What it means when your SEPTA Key Card has a negative balance, and how to fix it.

We regularly check with SEPTA to make sure we can load the Key Advantage pass onto your Key Card at the end of each month. One of the most common issues on a Key Card is a negative balance.

What does it mean?

We cannot load a monthly pass to a SEPTA Key Card with a negative balance. Therefore, you will need to add money to your Travel Wallet so that the balance is not negative.

How do I fix it?

  1. Log in to your SEPTAKey.org account

  2. Find the card that you used to enroll in Key Advantage and click Add Value Now

  3. Add enough money so that the balance is no longer in the negative

  4. Click Save

* Please note that the balance must remain above $0.00 until the Key Advantage pass is added to your card. We only load the Key Advantage pass at the end of each month, so please keep that in mind when loading more money onto your card. *

**If the balance dips back into the negative again before we load the Key Advantage pass to your card, we will send you another email requesting that you add more money to your card.**


How will I know if I successfully fixed this error?

  • If there is still an issue with your enrollment, you will receive an email from us within 1-2 business days.

  • If you do not hear from us, then you're all set! Look out for an email from us at the end of the month confirming that the pass has been loaded to your card.
