PATCO has three kinds of payment cards. Depending on your organization's rules, Jawnt can support loading value on the Transit Benefits Card (the FREEDOM T-Card) and the FREEDOM Share Card as these are the only ones the IRS approves as eligible for pre-tax transit commuter benefits. The standard FREEDOM Card is not approved.

You can read about all three cards and their rules on PATCO’s website.

Where can I use the PATCO FREEDOM T-Card?

  • You can use your T-Card to pay for PATCO train fares.

  • You cannot use your T-Card to pay for parking at a PATCO station.

How do I get a PATCO FREEDOM T-Card?

You can only get a new FREEDOM T-Card by visiting a PATCO Card Service Center in person. Standard hours are listed below, though check the PATCO website for holidays and other possible closures.

Can I use my existing FREEDOM Card?

Yes, but only if it is a T-Card or FREEDOM Share card. Regular PATCO FREEDOM Cards are ineligible for employer transit benefits. Note that not all organizations support loading the FREEDOM Share cards.

How do I check my balance?

Register your card with PATCO at patcofreedomcard.org, and you’ll be able to check your balance online. Note that each month when new funds are transferred to your card, they won’t be reflected in your online balance until after you’ve tapped a fare gate in the PATCO system.

There is a max value for PATCO cards - $650.00 for FREEDOM Cards and $999.00 for SHARE Cards. Please note that Jawnt will not be able to load funds to cards if the load will result in an exceeded max value.

Where can I use the PATCO FREEDOM Share Card?

The PATCO FREEDOM Share card can be used on both PATCO and SEPTA. Note: Jawnt will only load the transit purse, not the parking purse, for this card. Also, note that not all organizations support loading the FREEDOM Share card.
