How do I replace my CharlieCard or Commuter Rail pass?

If your CharlieCard or Commuter Rail pass is lost, stolen, or damaged, your replacement options depend on how your pass was purchased and where it’s stored.

Replacing a CharlieCard (Monthly LinkPass – auto-pay only)

If your monthly LinkPass is set up through auto-pay, you can request a replacement at no cost.

To request a replacement:

Your replacement card will typically arrive within 3–5 business days.

Replacing a CharlieCard (not on auto-pay)

If your CharlieCard is not set up on auto-pay, replacements are not free.

You will need to purchase a new CharlieCard and monthly pass at an MBTA fare vending machine

Replacing a Commuter Rail pass (CharlieTicket)

Replacement options for Commuter Rail passes depend on the condition of the ticket.

Lost or stolen tickets

  • Lost or stolen CharlieTickets cannot be replaced

  • You will need to purchase a new ticket or monthly pass

Timing to know:

  • If it is after the 14th of the month, monthly passes are only available for the following month.

  • You will not be able to purchase a pass for the current month.

Damaged or demagnetized tickets

If your CharlieTicket is damaged or not scanning properly, you may be eligible for a free replacement.

You will need to visit one of the following stations:
