How do I use mTicket for the ferry or Commuter Rail?

If you ride the ferry or Commuter Rail, you can buy tickets and passes using the mTicket app on your phone. With mTicket, you don’t need a physical card. Just show your ticket on your phone to ride.

Important limitations

  • Monthly passes purchased in mTicket do not include subway or bus travel

  • mTicket does not support auto-pay

  • You’ll need to purchase a new monthly pass each month

For these reasons, we recommend using a CharlieTicket for monthly passes if you also ride the subway or bus.

To buy a ticket in the mTicket app:

  1. Open the mTicket app

  2. Tap Buy Tickets

  3. Select your origin and destination

  4. Choose your ticket type (for example, 5-day Flex Pass, Round Trip, 10 Ride)

  5. Tap "Accept & Continue" to agree to MBTA’s terms

  6. When prompted to select a payment method, you can either “Add New Card” and manually enter your Jawnt Pass card information, or, if you’ve already loaded your Jawnt Pass to your mobile wallet, pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay

  7. To finish, tap “Accept & Pay”, and be sure to activate your ticket before boarding the train.

Be sure to activate your ticket before boarding!
