How do I buy a senior pass with my Jawnt Pass?

If you qualify for a senior transit fare, you can still use your Jawnt Pass to purchase discounted passes or fares.

Because senior discounts are administered by the transit agency, you’ll first need to register for their senior fare program. Once you have your senior fare card, you can use Jawnt Pass to pay for eligible fares or passes.

Step 1: Register for a senior fare card

First, apply for a senior fare card with your transit agency. For example, Boston-area riders can apply for a Senior CharlieCard through the MBTA online or in person.

Once approved, you’ll receive a card that automatically applies senior discounts.

Step 2: Choose the fare product that works for you

Senior fare cards often unlock several discounted options, such as:

  • Reduced one-way fares (typically about 50% off)

  • Discounted weekly passes

  • Discounted monthly passes

Check your transit agency’s website to see which discounted products are available.

Step 3: Use your Jawnt Pass to pay

After you have your senior fare card, you can use your Jawnt Pass to purchase eligible passes or fares just like you would normally, either in the transit agency’s app, website, or ticket machines.

When entering payment information, use the card number on your physical Jawnt Pass debit card. You can also access your card details by logging into your Jawnt account, navigating to Jawnt Pass, and selecting Manage Card. After entering a verification code, you’ll be able to see your card number, expiration date, and CVC.

If your employer provides a transit subsidy or pre-tax benefit, those savings will still apply when you use Jawnt Pass to purchase the discounted senior fare product.
