Next steps after enrolling
If you choose to receive a physical Jawnt Pass, we’ll ship your Jawnt Pass debit card to the mailing address you entered in Jawnt during enrollment. We’ll notify you when it’s on its way, and again when it’s due to arrive.
Once you receive your Jawnt Pass, follow these steps so you can start using your debit card once it’s funded:
Activate your card by logging in to Jawnt and going to Jawnt Pass, then Manage card
Follow the instructions to activate your card and set a PIN
If you’re purchasing a monthly pass from the MBTA, be sure to note the important deadlines below
At the beginning of the next month, start using your Jawnt Pass!
Timeline for transit benefits
If you plan to use Jawnt Pass to purchase monthly transit passes online, please note these important deadlines to ensure you can start riding on the 1st of the next month:
The deadline to enroll or submit changes to your enrollment in Jawnt is the 7th of the month by 11:59pm ET.
If this is your first time enrolling, you’ll receive your Jawnt Pass in the mail within 7 business days. Make sure to activate your card before making any purchases with it!
The deadline to set up a recurring, auto-pay subscription on the MyCharlie website is the 22nd of the month by 5pm ET.
Tip: You can set up your auto-pay subscription before your debit card is funded. Your Jawnt Pass will be loaded by the 22nd of every month, aligning with the date the MBTA pulls funds for monthly orders.
After the 22nd order date, the MBTA will mail your monthly pass within 2-3 business days.
Moving forward, both your Jawnt Pass debit card will and your monthly pass will reload automatically every month.
If you choose to purchase a monthly pass at a fare vending machine or retail location instead of setting up auto-pay, you have a bit more flexibility in when you can purchase your pass. Sales for each new month begin on the 15th of the prior month. For example:
A pass purchased on September 14 or earlier is valid only until September 30
A pass purchased on September 15 or later is valid from October 1 to October 31
Your Jawnt Pass is funded on the 22nd of the month, so we recommend purchasing your monthly pass in person between the 22nd and the end of the month.
