Your Jawnt Pass works just like your go-to debit card. Tap it, swipe it, or use it online! Don’t worry if it declines a transaction – this usually comes down to a few simple things. Transit and parking each have their own balances and approved merchants, so the reason often depends on the type of purchase you are trying to make.
Here is a quick guide to the most common hiccups and how to keep things moving smoothly!
Important: A frequent cause of Jawnt Pass declines is the card not being activated. Before attempting to use it for transit or parking expenses be sure to activate your card by following the steps on the back of your card or in this article.
Transit Declines
1. Insufficient Funds
Transit purchases draw funds from your transit balance. If there aren’t enough dollars available, the transaction will decline.
2. Merchant Not Coded as Transit
Your Jawnt Pass transit funds will only work at merchants categorized as transit (e.g., subway, bus, rail).
Declines may occur if you attempt to use your Jawnt Pass at a merchant that is not transit eligible, such as rideshare, tolls, or retail. These purchases are not IRS approved commuter expenses and will be declined.
3. PIN Errors
Incorrect PIN entry will prevent the transaction from going through.
4. Merchant Declines
General declines from the merchant may occur, such as fraud flags, outages, or blocks on the merchant's end, and can cause your card to decline.
These declines can happen if the card is used before activation, or if there are multiple declines due to insufficient funds. This may cause it to be hotlisted and you’ll need to resolve this directly with the merchant.
Parking Declines
1. Insufficient Funds
Parking purchases draw funds from your parking balance. If there aren’t enough dollars available, the transaction will decline.
2. Merchant Not Coded as Parking
Your Jawnt Pass parking funds must be used with parking garages near your place of work for commuting purposes.
Declines may occur if a parking merchant is coded as a non-parking category (e.g., hotel or municipality). Jawnt Support can help confirm this and guide you on submitting a reimbursement if the expense is eligible parking.
3. Merchant Declines
General declines from the merchant may occur. These declines can happen if the card is used before activation, if the transaction is flagged as fraud, and if there are outages or blocks on the merchant's end.
In these instances you will need to reach out to the parking garage directly to have them attempt your card again.
4. PIN Errors
Incorrect PIN entry will prevent the transaction from going through.
