What do these two options look like?
The physical Jawnt Pass debit card is the familiar plastic rectangle with numbers on it that fits snuggly in your wallet. If you've ever tapped, inserted, or swiped a physical bank card, you've used a card like the physical Jawnt Pass.
A virtual Jawnt Pass debit card only exists online. You can access your virtual card details from your Jawnt account by going to Jawnt Pass, then Manage Card, and entering a verification code to see your card details.
Both physical and virtual cards can be added to a mobile wallet on your smartphone or smartwatch for everyday use:
What are the advantages of a physical card?
Many cardholders find something reassuring in the physical weight of the card. If you're not already using a mobile wallet, you may prefer sticking with the traditional physical card.
If you sometimes use a mobile wallet, or are curious about trying one, you can still add your physical card to your mobile wallet.
What are the advantages of a virtual card?
Many cardholders consider the virtual card safer because there's no physical card to lose. The card information only exists behind secure login screens, so there's less risk of it being stolen, and never any hassle of waiting for a replacement.
Virtual Jawnt Passes can also be activated immediately, so there's no need to wait on a piece of mail to get started. Read more about card activation.
Can I get both?
When enrolling in Jawnt Pass, you can choose to receive either A) a physical + virtual card, or B) a virtual card only.
Note: If you want both the physical card and the option to add it to your mobile wallet, select the physical card. All physical cards can be added to mobile wallets.
Can I change my mind?
Unfortunately, no. Once you've selected the virtual-only card option, it will not be possible to request a physical card. And once you've selected a physical card, you'll always be responsible for keeping it safe.
I chose to receive a physical + virtual card. Can I use them interchangeably?
Yes! Your physical and virtual cards have two different card numbers, but are associated with the same funding account, so you can use them interchangeably. For example, you may find it easier to tap your physical card to ride the subway, and use your virtual card to pay for a monthly pass online.
